Interpol-wanted Azerbaijani national returned from UAE over pension and job fraud
An Azerbaijani citizen wanted internationally through Interpol has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Azerbaijan to face fraud charges, caspianpost.com reports.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed that Polad Babayev was located and detained in the UAE before being transferred to Azerbaijani authorities. The extradition followed the submission of required documentation and negotiations between the two parties, the ministry said.
Investigators allege that from 2022 onwards, Babayev defrauded multiple citizens by falsely promising to help them obtain disability pensions or secure employment. Authorities say he collected money from victims under various pretexts, causing significant financial losses.
Babayev has been charged under Articles 178.2.1 and 178.2.4 of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code, both relating to fraud.
