Officers in the emirate placed a man from Ireland under arrest on Wednesday after receiving legal paperwork from officials in his homeland. The apprehension relates to accusations that he directed a criminal syndicate engaged in unlawful operations internationally.

A statement issued by the emirate's law enforcement agency confirmed the detention of a fugitive wanted for suspected involvement in directing an organized group responsible for serious offenses abroad. The announcement did not disclose the individual's identity, though several news organizations based in Ireland named him as Daniel Kinahan.

The operation came about through cooperation between judicial bodies in Ireland and local police in the emirate. Media reports from Dublin indicate the case stems from violent disputes between rival underworld factions.

American authorities had previously identified the same individual as a senior figure within a notorious trafficking network. In 2022, Washington placed a bounty of five million dollars for intelligence that would help capture the organization's command structure. Officials there drew parallels between this outfit and other infamous criminal enterprises worldwide, pointing out that members often used the emirate as a base for unlawful dealings.

Legal counsel for the accused had earlier rejected such claims, insisting in a 2021 media interview that their client had never been convicted and denied any wrongdoing.

News agency Reuters said it could not get a response from the detained man's representatives regarding this latest development.
