Kerala expat stabbed to death in Sharjah after TikTok dispute turns violent

Sharjah Police have confirmed the arrest of multiple suspects in connection with the murder of an Indian expatriate, gulfnews.com reports. The victim, identified as Ismail Ponnan Ibrahim Kutty, a 40-year-old from the south Indian state of Kerala, was stabbed and struck with sharp objects on a Sharjah street on the morning of Sunday, May 31.

Kutty was employed at a bakery in Dubai and was known to be active on social media, particularly TikTok. According to his followers, the fatal incident was preceded by a live verbal altercation on the platform between Kutty and a group of other TikTok users. The online dispute escalated into a challenge to confront one another in person.

Kutty reportedly invited the men to meet him near a park in the Al Nahda area, where a number of individuals then confronted and attacked him. Dozens of bystanders witnessed the assault, which took place in broad daylight. Onlookers contacted police and emergency services as the attack unfolded.

Kutty was transported to Al Qassimi Hospital, arriving at approximately 8am. He was declared dead at 8.45am. A death notification reviewed by gulfnews.com recorded the cause of death as assault by a sharp object, resulting in haemorrhage and hypovolaemic shock.

Sharjah Police confirmed the incident to Gulf News on Wednesday. Investigators said several suspects have been detained and that the investigation remains ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
