Initial reports had suggested Andrews was questioned on suspicion of espionage, but more recent accounts indicate the dispute is financial in nature. He is now said to require a payment exceeding £100,000 before he can be freed.

Katie Price, his wife, has been making repeated visits to courts, police stations, and prison officials in Dubai in an effort to resolve the paperwork surrounding his case. A source told The Sun: "Katie is desperately trying to get Lee out of prison. Despite everything that's gone on, Lee is her husband, and Katie wants to get him out and get the answers she so badly needs."

The same source added: "She has been to the prison a number of times now, including going there today, to try to get the paperwork sorted to secure his release. To be released, Lee will have to pay over £100,000."

Andrews has previously denied claims that he is a conman and has also rejected suggestions that he faces any travel restrictions within the UAE. Earlier reports linked him to financial disputes with a former partner, including allegations relating to loans and mortgages — all of which he has denied.

Price and Andrews married earlier this year following a brief relationship. Some accounts indicate that Andrews had been unaccounted for approximately two weeks before news of his arrest became public.

Price has indicated that Andrews will ultimately need to address the situation publicly, given the volume of speculation surrounding the case.
