A court in Sharjah has fined a man Dh3,000 after finding him guilty of posting insulting remarks and photographs of a woman and her father on social media without their consent, filipinotimes.net reports.
According to court records, the victim reported the matter to authorities shortly after the posts appeared. She told investigators the content caused her severe embarrassment and humiliation in front of family members and others who had seen it online. She also confirmed she had never authorised the accused to upload images of herself or her father.
The woman described the incident as particularly distressing given that she is married to one of the accused's relatives.
Following the complaint, authorities initiated legal proceedings and tasked electronic evidence experts with examining the accused's social media account. Investigators recovered the relevant posts and documented the materials as evidence before the court.
During questioning, the accused denied posting the content. He claimed the woman had taken his phone, accessed his account using a password she allegedly knew, and uploaded the material herself.
The court rejected that explanation after reviewing the victim's testimony alongside the findings of the electronic forensic report. Authorities stated the evidence clearly established the accused's involvement in the offence.
While entering a conviction, the court noted that the circumstances of the case justified a lenient outcome and imposed a fine of Dh3,000.
