Sharjah Police arrested a motorist who performed dangerous stunts and drove recklessly through a residential area of the emirate, gulfnews.com reports. Authorities launched a rapid investigation after receiving reports from local residents, using private surveillance camera footage from the neighbourhood to identify the vehicle and pursue legal action against the driver.
Police said they moved immediately upon receiving the initial reports, with video evidence proving critical to tracking down the offender. Sharjah Police commended residents for their cooperation, describing them as active security partners whose swift reporting contributed directly to the arrest.
The offence falls under Article 1 of the UAE traffic law, which covers driving in a manner that endangers the driver's life or the lives, safety and security of others, or causes damage to public or private property. The penalty includes a Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic black points and vehicle confiscation for 60 days, in addition to impound release fees that can reach Dh15,000.
Authorities also highlighted Article 73 of the traffic law, which penalises unauthorised modifications to a vehicle's engine or chassis. That violation carries a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points and vehicle confiscation for 90 days, alongside release fees of up to Dh5,000.
Sharjah Police warned that reckless driving and illegal vehicle modifications pose a direct threat to lives and property across the emirate. The force stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and responsible driving behaviour at all times.
The public was urged to report dangerous driving through official police channels, including 999 for emergencies and 901 for non-emergency cases, as part of broader efforts to strengthen road safety and quality of life in Sharjah.
