A woman in the UAE has been ordered to pay Dh20,000 in civil compensation after filming and publishing images of a teenage girl on social media without the knowledge or consent of her guardian, gulfnews.com reports.

The ruling was issued by the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Court. The child's guardian had originally sought Dh100,000 in damages, citing material and moral harm suffered by both himself and his daughter as a result of the incident.

Court records show the defendant had previously been convicted in a separate criminal case for the same offence. In that earlier proceeding, she was fined Dh10,000 and ordered to pay Dh10,000 in temporary civil compensation, according to Al Khaleej Arabic daily. That conviction, covering the filming and publication of photos and videos of the girl without permission, was upheld on appeal and became final.

In its civil ruling, the court confirmed that the defendant's conduct constituted a breach of the child's privacy. It noted that publishing the images without the guardian's knowledge or consent had caused harm to both the girl and her father.

Taking into account the established criminal conviction and the damages incurred, the court awarded Dh20,000 in compensation.
