Seven people have been arrested and a large quantity of drugs intercepted after Sharjah authorities uncovered a smuggling pipeline running from Canada through Spain into the UAE.

Authorities in Sharjah have broken up a transnational narcotics operation, arresting seven individuals and intercepting a substantial shipment of illegal drugs bound for the Emirates.
The pipeline originated at a Canadian port and moved substances by sea to a Spanish harbor before the final leg to the UAE, according to an official statement from the country's Interior Ministry.
Investigators first took notice of an Arab national who traveled to the Emirates repeatedly with his spouse and children. Surveillance revealed he was using his own family members to help conceal the contraband. His interactions with local accomplices were tracked over an extended period.
After building a full picture of the organization, law enforcement staged a coordinated takedown. Five other detainees, described as being from Asian countries, were accused of handling distribution and sales within the UAE.
The total haul included 131 kilograms of various narcotics and mind-altering substances, plus nearly ten thousand capsules filled with controlled medication.
The ministry credited the success to close cooperation between police units and domestic intelligence services, calling the effort a carefully planned security action.
