A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old suffered gunshot injuries after being fired upon while standing along a road in Antigua on Saturday evening.

A pair of youths were struck by bullets during an evening assault on South Street near a body-art studio in Antigua.

Officers were dispatched to the area shortly after 9 p.m. on June 27 following emergency calls about gunfire, the Antigua Observer reported. Investigators believe the wounded pair — one aged 16, the other 17 — had been waiting at the roadside when a couple of strangers approached along Goodwin Street. The assailants wore dark garments with hoods pulled over their heads.

Witness accounts indicate one attacker pulled out a firearm and sprayed several shots at the adolescents before the pair ran from the location.

Medical teams transported the injured youths to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. Doctors have determined that neither victim faces life-threatening harm, though both are still being monitored while receiving further care.
