A rider representing Antigua suffered major wounds when a motorist struck him on Sir Sydney Walling Highway and then sped off without rendering aid. The operator, a 24-year-old originating from St Vincent named Kishroy Harry, later confessed in court to multiple violations.

Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel handed down monetary sanctions totalling $8,000. Harry had acknowledged four separate wrongdoings: operating a car in a reckless manner, lacking proper authorisation to drive, using the vehicle without permission from its proprietor, and having no coverage.

The wreck happened on June 20th. Rather than remain to help the wounded athlete, Harry abandoned the location. Law enforcement caught him the following morning at the airport as he attempted to travel back to his homeland.

During sentencing, the bench took into account that the accused had never been in trouble before, voiced sorrow for his actions, and spared the court a trial by admitting fault early. These points worked in his favour. Against him were the gravity of the cyclist's wounds and his choice to escape.

Each of the four infractions carried a $2,000 levy, though the penalties overlap so the overall sum stays at $8,000. Harry has roughly five months to hand over the money; otherwise he could spend two months locked up for each conviction.

The magistrate made no award for damages, directing the injured party to seek any restitution through separate civil proceedings at the High Court.
