Two Arrested Following Early Morning Gun Attack on Queen Elizabeth Highway

Officers in Antigua and Barbuda detained a pair of men in connection with a violent attack that broke out on Queen Elizabeth Highway in the early hours of Sunday, April 26.

Investigators say a 28-year-old man from the Grays Farm neighbourhood had been standing close to a venue commonly called "Timmy Times" when a silver car passed by travelling west. Shots were then fired from the vehicle, and the victim was hit.

Medical staff at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre are now caring for him. While the wounds are not expected to be fatal, surgical intervention may still be necessary.

The hail of bullets also struck multiple parked cars nearby, leaving them with visible damage.

At the scene, police picked up a gun along with several discharged cartridges.

The force issued a statement stressing that, according to what is known so far, the shooting does not appear to be linked to organised gangs, politics, or the entertainment event held at Rising Sun Grounds on Saturday night.

Authorities condemned the violence and renewed their appeal for citizens to help keep communities safe.

Anyone who can shed light on what happened is urged to phone the Criminal Investigations Department on 462-3913 or reach the Crimestoppers confidential hotline at 800-TIPS (8477). All details shared will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The probe is still active.
