Second Canadian arrested for cannabis smuggling at V.C. Bird Airport in one month

Second Canadian held for drug trafficking at Antigua's main airport in under a month

A 23-year-old Canadian national has been remanded in custody after narcotics officers at V.C. Bird International Airport discovered 26 pounds of cannabis concealed in his luggage, antigua.news reports.

Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo arrived in Antigua on March 21 aboard an Air Canada flight from Toronto. A joint inspection by narcotics officers, customs officials, and a K-9 unit flagged his suitcase for further examination. Inside, officers found 26 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis with an estimated street value of EC$208,000.

Aljndo appeared before the court, where bail was denied after he was assessed as a flight risk. He faces multiple charges: drug trafficking, importation, and possession with intent to distribute. His case is scheduled for committal proceedings on May 13, 2026. He is represented by attorney Michael Archibald.

The arrest is the second of its kind on the same Toronto route within weeks. Earlier this month, Roselynee Crisostomo, 48, was detained at the same airport after authorities found more than 67 pounds of cannabis in her luggage, valued at nearly EC$536,000. She was also denied bail and is due to appear in court on the same date as Aljndo.
