Eight Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) officers have been deployed to Anguilla to support the Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF), caymancompass.com reports. The contingent includes six firearms officers, a police inspector serving as Tactical Firearms Commander, and a drone operator.

The deployment, funded and supported by the United Kingdom, will last approximately four weeks. Its purpose is to assist the RAPF in addressing an escalation in serious crime linked to rising gang tension.

"It is important that we support our B.O.T. colleagues whenever possible," Commissioner Kurt Walton said. "We have been very fortunate here in the Cayman Islands, where there have been limited reasons to call for outside help. However, I am confident that if the circumstances were reversed, the support would be reciprocated."

RCIPS said staffing levels at home had been carefully assessed before the deployment to ensure the local community would not be left without adequate coverage. High-visibility patrols and proactive policing will continue in the Cayman Islands throughout the period.
