Jury finds St Michael man guilty of murder and four firearms counts in Baxters Road killing
A twelve-member jury has convicted Jakobe Jaheem Yarde, of Nurse Land, Bank Hall, St Michael, of murder and multiple firearms-related offences stemming from a shooting on April 16, 2022, that killed one man and left others injured, Google News BB — Crime reports.
Yarde was found guilty of the murder of Jerome Stuart, 25, formerly of 8th Avenue, New Orleans. Stuart died after being shot at Baxters Road, near Jordan's Supermarket.
The jury also returned guilty verdicts on four additional counts: using a firearm without a valid licence; unlawfully wounding Steve Hackett and Rasheed Bishop with intent to cause serious bodily harm, maim, disfigure or disable them; and maliciously engaging in conduct — specifically, shooting at Michael Preville and Ceejay Ifill — with intent to place them in danger of death or serious bodily harm.
The verdicts were delivered in the No. 3 Supreme Court on Thursday.
Defence attorneys Sade Harris and Markaila Brathwaite, who represent Yarde, requested a pre-sentence report and a custody record following the verdicts.
Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney and Principal State Counsel Joyann Catwell prosecuted the case on behalf of the Crown.
Justice Carlisle Greaves adjourned proceedings until September 25, when the sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin.
