Two defendants received non-custodial sentences after pleading guilty to drug-related charges in a Bridgetown magistrates' court.

A court in Barbados handed bond orders to two defendants who separately admitted to drug crimes, according to Barbados Today.

Eric Jelani Narcisse, 30, from Parris Gap on Westbury Road, acknowledged that on the previous Saturday he had 90 grammes of cannabis, planned to distribute it, and trafficked the drug. The magistrate convicted him, issued a reprimand, and released him without further penalty for the possession and supply-intent counts. For trafficking, Narcisse must maintain good behaviour for half a year; violating this means an immediate fine of $1 000 or 30 days behind bars.

In the second matter, labourer Tavio Devon Philips, 25, of McClean Gap, Brittons Cross Road, confessed to holding, planning to distribute, and trafficking 23.7 grammes of cannabis. He also owned up to carrying 5.93 grammes of ecstasy. Presiding officer Douglas Frederick, serving as acting chief magistrate, ordered Philips to keep the peace for 12 months on the cannabis possession count, with a warning that any violation would trigger a half-year jail sentence. The other counts ended in conviction with a reprimand and discharge.

Both hearings took place at the No. 1 District 'A' Magistrates' Court.
