A 26-year-old labourer from St Michael is being kept at Dodds Prison after a court appearance on accusations he fired a weapon during a public disturbance at the start of June.

A young labourer aged 26 is now in prison awaiting his next hearing after facing accusations involving a weapon. Authorities allege he fired a gun during a violent public disturbance that occurred in a St Michael neighbourhood at the beginning of this month.

The defendant, identified as Mahindra Alexander Thomas, resides on Emmerton Lane within the Chapman Lane area. He was brought before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick at the No. 2 District 'A' Magistrates' Court. The specific allegation claims he used a firearm by shooting it while engaged in an affray on June 3.

Given that the matter is indictable, the court did not record any plea from the accused. Legal counsel Simon Clarke is representing him. The presiding judicial officer ruled that Thomas should remain at Dodds Prison until the case proceeds further.

His subsequent appearance is set for July 20 at the District 'A' Traffic Court.
