Barbados man confesses to keeping unlicensed gun and bullets
A resident of St James has owned up to unlawfully holding a handgun together with several bullets, and will now undergo evaluation ahead of punishment.
Inyah Iroyal Jones appeared before Justice Pamela Beckles in the High Court and acknowledged that he had kept a Taurus .380 ACP pistol without holding the required licence. He also admitted to having four rounds of matching ammunition without authorisation.
Prosecutor Maya Kellman, serving as Acting Senior State Counsel, outlined how police came to act. Authorities had received word that an armed individual had fled into a female occupant’s dwelling. With a warrant in hand, officers searched the premises and came across Jones inside a sleeping area. A check of his body turned up nothing, yet a weapon was spotted hidden underneath the bed’s mattress.
The accused accepted that the firearm was his property. Speaking to detectives, he explained that he had come across the weapon, rushed into the residence, and stashed it below the bed. He also voiced regret, stating he was sorry and had not intended to bring trouble to the household.
Attorney Kyle Walkes is acting on Jones’s behalf. The matter will come up again on 28 July for the next hearing.
