A jury in Barbados is set to hear final submissions in a drug prosecution involving roughly 38 kilogrammes of marijuana seized at the capital's port. Eric Astor Omar Gibson, a resident of West Terrace in St James, stands accused of holding the substance and taking steps toward moving it during the first week of February 2019.

Last Friday, the defendant addressed the court from the dock without taking an oath. He also made clear that no other witnesses would appear on his behalf.

The legal teams are expected to present their closing remarks on Tuesday. Justice Pamela Beckles will then guide the nine-member panel — eight women and one man — through the law and evidence the following Friday.

State Counsel Maya Kellman is leading the case for the Crown. Gibson's defence is being handled by lawyers Zaria Taylor and Elan Greenidge.
