Court remands 11 suspects in tourist robbery at Savvy On The Bay

A group of eight adults and three minors accused of assaulting and robbing an American visitor at a west coast venue will remain behind bars for nearly another month.

A dozen individuals accused of attacking and stealing from a United States national at Savvy On The Bay will stay locked up for an additional four weeks. The group consists of eight grown men and three underage persons.

During Tuesday's hearing at the No. 1 District 'A' Magistrates' Court, Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick heard the matter. The adult defendants are Joshua Greg Belgrave, aged 21, from St Hill Road in Carrington Village; Addagio Marlon Bostic, 18, from Laynes Gap on Martindales Road; Leonardo Ricardo Allsopp, 26, from Grassfield Gap on Stevenson Road in Delamare Land; Chad Seon Codrington, 18, from Licorish Village on My Lords Hill; Donte Richardo Sealy, 18, from Murrell Road in Carrington Village; Seth Ethan Griffith, 23, from Blackmans Road in Carrington Village; Kenavar Antwan Charles, 18, from Nurse Land on Tweedside Road; and Xavier Xalico Joseph, 19, from Cave Hill. Each of the accused adults lives in St Michael.

The charges state that Darin Sisco was deliberately harmed in a way meant to injure him severely or permanently. The group allegedly took two chains worth US$1,000 (about BDS$2,028) and a handset valued at US$800 (roughly BDS$1,623) from him. They are also said to have stolen a phone of the same value from Larraine Sisco. Another accusation claims the suspects collectively engaged in violent behaviour that would make any ordinary bystander afraid for their safety.

When the defence requested release on bail, Sergeant Gazelda Knights argued against it. She noted that crimes of this nature happen far too often, that the island is seeing a disturbing pattern of serious offences committed by young males, and that the wider community still reels from the trauma of such acts.

Frederick ordered all defendants back to Dodds Prison. Their next court date is set for July 21.
