Illegal firearm trial opens in No. 4 Supreme Court

A New Orleans man has entered a not guilty plea and stood trial in the No. 4 Supreme Court on charges of unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession, barbadostoday.bb reports.

D'Nairo Greaves, of Third Avenue New Orleans, is accused of having in his possession a Glock '19 Gen 4' 9mm Luger calibre pistol without a valid licence, along with 14 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit, on July 20, 2022.

On Wednesday, a nine-member jury heard testimony from three witnesses for the prosecution: police photographer PC Duane Alleyne, former constable Kareem Parris, and forensic firearms examiner Station Sergeant David Leslie.

State Counsel Paul Prescod outlined the Crown's case, stating that officers had reason to attend a property in Bush Hall, where they allegedly observed Greaves at a window holding a firearm. He fled from the window and was subsequently apprehended in the yard. A firearm was recovered from the living room floor of the premises.

Defence attorney Shadia Simpson represents Greaves. Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell presides over the proceedings.
