A man from Clarendon, Jamaica admitted before a Barbadian court to bringing in and dealing cannabis, after police intercepted nearly three kilograms of the substance.

Officers in Barbados detained a 36-year-old visitor from Jamaica and later secured a guilty plea on drug charges that resulted in a steep financial penalty.

The accused, identified as Andre O'shane Williams from Howell Content in York Town, May Pen, Clarendon, was apprehended on October 17. Prosecutors accused him of four violations under drug laws: having cannabis in his control, moving it commercially, preparing to sell it, and smuggling it across borders.

Investigators put the combined weight of the narcotics at 2.6 kilograms — just under six pounds. They valued the haul at BBD $20,800, figures the force shared through its social media channel.

During his appearance in the Magistrates' Court, Williams acknowledged guilt on every charge. The magistrate imposed a fine of BBD $15,000, which converts to roughly JMD $1.2 million, and demanded immediate settlement. Non-payment would land him behind bars for nine months under the Barbados Prison Service.
