A homeless man in his forties has been imprisoned for stealing building materials from a Bridgetown bakery after being caught on camera and later spotted by guards.

A 44-year-old man without a permanent home will spend the next three months behind bars after confessing to taking timber from a well-known bakery in the capital. Nelroy Peter Calderon stood before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick at the No. 1 District 'A' Magistrates' Court and admitted to the offence of stealing two pine planks worth $70 from Purity Bakeries earlier in June.

According to prosecutor Sergeant Gazelda Knight, the business had acquired several wooden boards and stored them within its completely fenced property. On June 11, a sanitation worker at the site observed someone at the rear of the building lifting lumber and heaving it over the boundary wall. The employee filmed what was happening on her phone and passed the information to the bakery's operations supervisor, who then reached out to the authorities.

On June 12, private security guards noticed the same person strolling past the main gate while hauling additional wooden pieces they suspected were unlawfully removed. Police detained him, and he conceded to the theft.
