A Gemswick man has confessed to keeping a firearm and ammunition without lawful permission. The court will outline how he came to be caught before sentencing him in July.

St Philip Resident Admits Guilt Over Unlicensed Gun, Bullets

A man hailing from Gemswick, St Philip, has acknowledged before the island’s highest court that he held a weapon and cartridges without legal authority. He is now awaiting punishment, with the hearing scheduled for the first week of July.

Anthony Sylvester Mayers stood in the No. 5 Supreme Court before Justice Pamela Beckles and entered a guilty plea. He accepted that on 4 October 2024 he had a gun without a proper licence and also kept four rounds of ammo without the required permit.

His attorney, Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, told the judge she did not wish to obtain a pre-sentence report. The case was therefore pushed back to 2 July. On that date, State Counsel Maya Kellman will explain how the accused came to be arrested and found with the items. Afterwards, lawyers for both sides will argue over what penalty should follow.
