Barbados Police have refuted circulating claims that gunmen ran through a nursery school in Eden Lodge, St Michael. A lone gunman fired at a man in a vehicle near Sorrel Lane at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday.

The Barbados Police Service has denied reports that armed men ran through a nursery school at Eden Lodge, St Michael, following a shooting in the area on Tuesday morning, barbadostoday.bb reports.
"The Barbados Police Service is aware of reports circulating suggesting that gunmen ran through the nursery school — those reports based on our investigations are not accurate," the Service stated in an updated release issued Tuesday.
According to initial investigations, at approximately 8:25 a.m. a man was seated in a motor vehicle near an educational institution on Sorrel Lane when a lone assailant approached and discharged several gunshots. The man subsequently fled the scene in the vehicle.
No injuries have been reported in the information made available by police so far. Investigations are ongoing.
Police warn against unverified information
While denying the more alarming version of events, the Service used the statement to underscore the seriousness of any firearms incident in the vicinity of a school.
"The Police Service wishes to make it absolutely clear that any discharge of a firearm in the vicinity of a school or around children is a matter of the gravest concern. Schools, nurseries, and spaces where children are gathered must never become areas where violent offenders believe they can operate without consequence," the statement read.
Police further called on the public to stop circulating unverified accounts of the incident, warning that speculation risks causing unnecessary panic — particularly among parents, teachers and the broader school community.
"Speculation can create unnecessary panic, compromise investigations, and cause further distress to parents, teachers, and the wider school community. The safety of our children, school staff, parents, and communities remains a priority," the Service added.
