A 37-year-old from Lower Silver Hill, Christ Church, has owned up to keeping two handguns and dozens of cartridges at his home without proper authorisation, reversing his earlier claim of ignorance when detectives first confronted him.

Jamal Neall Stapleton stood before Supreme Court No. 4 on Friday and acknowledged that on November 4, 2024, he had an AK-47-style 'Mini Draco' weapon and a Taurus semi-automatic handgun, plus 62 cartridges, all lacking the required paperwork.

Prosecutor Paul Prescod, acting in a senior capacity, outlined how a search warrant led officers to Stapleton's property. Near the washroom, inside a storage space, they came across a red bag holding the weapons, magazines, and rounds. When first questioned, the accused insisted he was unaware of the contents, remarking that many individuals had visited the premises.

The stash included 27 rounds for the nine-millimetre piece and 35 for the AK-47 variant.

Stapleton's lawyer, Safiya Moore, asked the bench to order a background assessment before punishment is decided. Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell agreed and put the matter over until October 30 for arguments on the penalty.
