A violent confrontation in the capital on Monday left a woman with serious injuries requiring hospital care, while detectives have placed one individual under arrest in connection with the attack.

The episode unfolded shortly before 6 p.m. at the corner of Nelson Street and Fairchild Street in the St Michael parish. Patrol officers attached to Central Police Station have opened a formal investigation into the matter.

Early information suggests that tensions between a male and a female party boiled over into physical violence, during which the woman was struck repeatedly with a sharp object. First responders from the ambulance service reached the scene promptly and conveyed the injured party to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where clinicians are attending to her wounds.

A spokesperson for the constabulary stated that a suspect is now under lockup and is helping officers piece together the sequence of events.
