Federal law enforcement officers have detained two individuals and are examining a residential property in Montreal's north end as part of an inquiry into cross-border people trafficking.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that one detainee is suspected of involvement in organizing irregular border crossings, while the other is a migrant who had been residing at the address. Officials have not yet announced what criminal counts either individual may face.

Investigators suspect the dwelling functioned as temporary accommodation for foreign nationals moving in either direction across the Canada-U.S. frontier. The operation appears connected to a wider criminal enterprise facilitating unauthorized migration.

This enforcement action follows several recent incidents highlighting the scale of smuggling activity in Quebec. In May, a Mountie sustained injuries while attempting to apprehend a suspected trafficker near the international boundary. The suspect's vehicle contained five migrants at the time of interception. Four people were charged in that case.

An even larger operation was disrupted last August when police intercepted a commercial truck transporting 44 foreign nationals close to the border. Four individuals faced prosecution following that incident.
