Five people sustained injuries in a shooting that occurred near Toronto's waterfront in the early hours of Sunday, and authorities took five individuals into custody.

According to Toronto Sun, Toronto Police responded shortly after 3 a.m. to the area around Polson Street and Cherry Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims who had suffered gunshot wounds. Two additional individuals had sustained different types of injuries.

Emergency crews transported all five injured parties to hospital for treatment. Medical personnel assessed one of the victims as being in critical condition.

Law enforcement officials apprehended five people in relation to the incident. Investigators did not immediately disclose what had triggered the violence or whether any suspects remained unaccounted for.

The waterfront area where the shooting took place sits along the shores of Lake Ontario, east of the downtown core. Police have not released further details about the identities of those involved or the specific charges filed.
