A 59-year-old former pilot from Barrie, Ontario is facing criminal prosecution after law enforcement accused him of using a counterfeit captain's licence to operate passenger flights for close to two decades.

Geoffrey Wall, who spent 27 years with Air Canada before stepping down last year, allegedly commanded wide-body jets including Boeing 767, 777 and 787 models while his permits were invalid. Investigators with Peel Regional Police say he carried out over 900 trips, moving tens of thousands of travellers during the 17-year period in question.

Authorities estimate the accused collected roughly $2.9-million in wages throughout the years he purportedly worked with fraudulent paperwork. The matter came to light when Transport Canada conducted a verification check in 2025 and found discrepancies with Wall's documentation.

The police inquiry began approximately four months ago. At a Tuesday media briefing, Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich of Peel Regional Police outlined the seven charges laid against Wall, which encompass fraud, possession of counterfeited materials, uttering forged records and public mischief.

Because Wall had already retired when the probe started, he was no longer active in the cockpit. The case nonetheless raises serious concerns about aviation oversight and how counterfeit credentials could evade detection across multiple regulatory and corporate checks over such an extended timeframe.
