A 34-year-old man has been charged with three counts of robbery after allegedly ambushing ATM users in Brampton between March and June.

Suspect charged with three ATM robberies in Brampton after targeting cash withdrawals

Sureshkumaran Rajaputhiran, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested on 16 June and charged with three counts of robbery, according to peelpolice.ca. He has been held for a bail hearing.

The three incidents took place between March and June in the area of Chinguacousy Road and Queen Street East in Brampton. Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) allege that Rajaputhiran waited inside ATM vestibules and targeted victims immediately after they withdrew cash. One of the victims was a senior citizen.

In each case, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victims once they had completed their transactions and stole their money. Investigators identified the suspect through surveillance before locating and arresting him.

Peel Regional Police are reminding residents to remain aware of their surroundings when using ATMs or handling cash withdrawals.
