Autopsies completed by the medical examiner confirmed that the 32-year-old mother took the life of her child before ending her own. The boy was a student at Guy Weadick School, where officials sent a letter to families offering support resources and counselling services for students and staff affected by the tragedy.

Officers responded to the home after receiving a call requesting a welfare check. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of the woman and her son. Homicide detectives investigated the scene and later ruled out any third-party involvement.

The Calgary Police Service stated that this marks the third homicide in the city so far that year. Investigators did not release further details about the circumstances leading to the deaths.
