First incident — southeast, Friday at 5:50 a.m.

A man with gunshot wounds arrived at a home in the 1200 block of 44 Street S.E. seeking help. Police believe he had been shot inside a nearby residence, which he had been seen leaving alongside a man and a woman who fled before officers arrived. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Second incident — southwest, Friday at 10:55 p.m.

A man was found with gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of 14 Avenue S.W. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since stabilised, though with life-altering injuries. Police later determined a second person had also sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds and had been driven away from the scene before officers arrived. That individual was taken to hospital and is also in stable condition with life-altering injuries. A driver of the vehicle involved was arrested on warrants unrelated to the shooting. No one has been taken into custody in connection with the incident itself.

Third incident — southeast, Saturday at 2:40 a.m.

A man was found with gunshot wounds under a bridge in the 400 block of 5 Avenue S.E. Police believe two unknown men approached him, demanded his belongings, and shot him during a physical altercation. He was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries. The two suspects fled the scene and remain at large.

Police say there is no ongoing risk to the public following the three incidents. No suspects are in custody in connection with any of the shootings.

Timing draws attention

Police noted that two of the three shootings occurred on the National Day Against Gun Violence, which has been observed across Canada on the first Friday of every June since 2023.

Acting Staff Sgt. Corey Der issued a statement addressing the timing. "Following National Day Against Gun Violence, it is concerning to see that firearm-related incidents continue to happen across our city, causing real harm and fear in our communities," Der said. "We remain committed to addressing gun violence and rely on the public to continue reporting information that helps keep everyone safe."
