A 40-year-old dentist in Ottawa, Canada allegedly killed his two young sons, aged 7 and 12, at his home on June 29, 2026, before setting fire to his dental practice and ultimately taking his own life in his vehicle.

According to Ottawa Police, Dr. Mohammed Al-Lami is believed to have killed the children at his residence. Before committing suicide, he allegedly threw molotov cocktails to set fire to the dental office where he worked. The incident has shocked the local community and raised serious questions about whether the tragedy could have been prevented.

Court documents reveal that Al-Lami had a history of threatening behavior toward his former wife and mother of the children. In 2024, he sent a disturbing email to her containing a series of alarming threats. "I will kill everyone around you and your fiance... in a very savage and barbaric way. I won't kill you. I will leave you alone, paralyzed in a wheelchair, unable to move, not even to visit the graves of your loved ones," the message read, according to reports. He also wrote: "I will make you an example of the unjust justice system. I will make you world news."

The former wife testified in court that she was "shocked" by the email and had simply asked him for child support payments. During her testimony, she explained that she decided to report the threatening email out of concern for her children's safety, after her current partner urged her to do so. "I just thought: what would happen if this actually happened? And then who would take care of my children if something happened to me? I just don't know what could happen. I didn't want to live with this uncertainty," she stated.

Al-Lami had been convicted in 2024 for threatening to cause bodily harm to his former wife. During a brief trial in February of this year, he represented himself and rejected the court's proposal to resolve the case with a one-year good behavior bond. A judge later imposed a 12-month suspended sentence, rejecting prosecution requests for a treatment program and a DNA sample order.

In a multi-page handwritten note discovered at his office, Al-Lami expressed fierce criticism against his former wife, the criminal justice system, and the family court. He named three individuals he considered "corrupted," urging authorities to take urgent action to protect them, while insisting that his former wife was the "victim" in their relationship.

Police stated in a release that they continue to investigate the murder-suicide and will release more information once additional "forensic examinations" are completed. Authorities have declined to publicly identify the children out of respect for their mother, whom they say they are "supporting" at this time.
