Death of St Lucian woman Kesi Fevrier in Ottawa ruled a femicide

Canadian authorities have classified the death of 27-year-old Kesi Fevrier from Mon Repos as a femicide. Her former boyfriend, Kingsley Nwude, 34, was found dead in a car crash the same morning.

Canadian authorities have classified the killing of 27-year-old Kesi Fevrier, from Mon Repos, Saint Lucia, as a femicide, St. Lucia Times reports. Her body was discovered in an apartment building in Ottawa's Lowertown neighbourhood on Saturday morning.

Officers arrived at the scene at 11:09 a.m. after neighbours reported hearing "disturbing noises" from the apartment the previous night and called the police.

Just before the discovery of Fevrier's body, Quebec officers responded to a single-car crash east of Highway 50, near Papineauville. Inside the vehicle they found a man whose injuries did not appear consistent with the crash; he was later pronounced dead.

On Monday, Ottawa police identified that man as Kingsley Nwude, 34, of Ottawa. St. Lucia Times has learned that Nwude was Fevrier's former boyfriend and was originally from Nigeria.

The night before her body was found, Fevrier reportedly told a family member that Nwude had asked to meet and talk. An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week.

Fevrier had recently returned to Ottawa from Saint Lucia to continue her studies. She attended Saint Joseph's Convent and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Saint Lucia, and in 2023 graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa. She was also the first runner-up in the 2018 Miss Universe Saint Lucia pageant and was widely recognised for her community involvement. Many friends and organisations have since shared condolences following her death.
