A First Nations cannabis retailer in northern Ontario has been cleared by federal testing after its products were initially suspected in two severe medical episodes, including one death.

Little Green Garden, situated in Garden River First Nation close to Sault Ste. Marie, voluntarily shut its doors last month while officials examined whether its merchandise contained dangerous additives. The Anishinabek Police Service had issued a public alert after two separate gatherings where individuals inhaled from water pipes and subsequently experienced reactions resembling drug overdoses.

In the more serious occurrence, a person passed away following hospitalization with symptoms suggesting an overdose. Another individual required emergency care after convulsions and comparable symptoms emerged during a different social gathering. Both groups had used plant material acquired from the outlet.

This week, the proprietors announced that specimens forwarded to Ottawa for examination came back showing nothing except ordinary cannabis components. A police representative relayed that Health Canada's assessment found zero opioid contamination in the submitted merchandise.

The business plans to unlock its doors again on July 17, offering discounted items and complimentary meals to patrons as a gesture of appreciation for standing by the store during the shutdown.

"We want to thank all our loyal customers for their patience and support throughout these unfortunate circumstances," management wrote on social platforms. "We remain committed to selling safe products."

Law enforcement emphasized that the precise reason behind the fatality has yet to be established, and inquiries into what triggered both medical crises remain active.
