Cocaine trafficking in Chicoutimi: former drug dealer caught in sting operation by undercover officer

According to lenouvelliste.ca, a Chicoutimi man who had abandoned drug trafficking pleaded guilty on Tuesday at the Chicoutimi courthouse before Quebec Court judge Jean Hudon to charges of cocaine trafficking.

The court accepted a joint submission from both parties: the accused receives a suspended sentence, 18 months of probation and must complete 175 hours of community service.

On 21 and 24 November 2025, an undercover agent contacted the man after learning that he had previously been involved in drug trafficking. At that time, the accused was a dealer-user — he sold narcotics to finance his own consumption. The officer did not know that he had since left that environment.

The accused, who now has a job in the North, saw this solicitation as a way to make extra money. He first sold two grammes of cocaine to the undercover agent. Three days later, the agent requested an additional three grammes, and the man agreed a second time.

This second transaction proved fatal. A search warrant was executed and the accused was arrested in possession of a few grammes of cocaine as well as $245 in cash.

Julien Boulianne, defence counsel, argued that his client had simply seized what he perceived as a financial opportunity. "And we understand he is not a major player. We are rather talking about small-time dealing when an undercover agent contacts you to obtain a small quantity of narcotics," he told judge Hudon.

The joint submission was presented jointly by Mariane Girard, from the office of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP), and Boulianne. The judge accepted it without modification.
