A fatal shooting erupted Monday at midday local time inside a hotel in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges district, leaving three people dead. Among the deceased are a police officer, a civilian bystander, and the presumed attacker, according to city police. Two additional individuals were wounded, including a female officer whose condition has since stabilized and who is no longer in critical danger.

When officers first reached the scene, they came under immediate gunfire. Authorities had earlier issued a public warning about an "armed and dangerous suspect" and urged residents to avoid the neighbourhood. Reinforcements including armoured vehicles and heavily armed tactical units were quickly deployed.

A police spokesperson noted that no officer had been killed in the line of duty in Montreal for 24 years. Investigators say the motive remains unclear, but they have ruled out terrorism. No other suspects are being sought.

According to press reports, the shooter may have composed a manifesto before the attack. The document allegedly contains hateful language characteristic of the so-called "incel" movement—an online antifeminist community that promotes misogynistic ideology and rigid gender roles. Law-enforcement officials have not yet confirmed these claims.
