Motorist captured after fleeing violent two-car smash in Stratford
Law enforcement on Prince Edward Island has placed a driver under arrest following a severe head-on smash that left multiple victims hurt. The incident unfolded on Stratford Road during Wednesday nighttime hours.
Investigators say a blue Equinox was driving in the direction of the Hillsborough span when it slipped past the dividing marker and slammed into an oncoming sport-utility vehicle. Officers suspect drinking and rapid acceleration played a part.
The person controlling the Equinox exited the location before responders arrived. A canine unit scoured the vicinity that same evening without success.
Cpl. Gavin Moore, a communications representative for the provincial RCMP, confirmed the culprit is now in detention and the force no longer needs civilians to name him. He emphasized that formal counts have not yet been approved, explaining that detectives need ample time to examine forensic findings, footage, and statements before a prosecution can proceed.
Moore encouraged bystanders or anyone holding camera evidence to contact the detachment immediately. (CBC, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-driver-arrested-stratford-crash-9.7332668)
