Life sentence for Laval father who drowned son and daughter in 2022
Global News Crime reports that Kamaljit Arora, convicted of drowning his two children at the family home in Laval, Quebec, has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
A jury found Arora guilty of first-degree murder in March for the October 2022 deaths of his 11-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. The same jury also convicted him of attempting to murder his eldest daughter and of strangling his wife, Rama Rani Arora, who survived the attack.
Life sentences for the first-degree murder counts were automatic. Superior Court Justice Alexandre Bien-Aimé Bastien additionally sentenced Arora to eight years for the attempted murder of his daughter and one year for the assault on his wife.
All sentences will run concurrently. Despite the multiple convictions, Arora becomes eligible to apply for parole after 25 years.
