Officers in York Region have detained a man for allegedly selling narcotics while armed, and two teenagers for a violent residential robbery involving a luxury car theft.

Ontario Police Arrest Five in Separate Drug and Home Invasion Cases

Law enforcement officials in York Region have taken five individuals into custody across two unrelated criminal investigations — one centred on narcotics distribution, the other on a violent residential robbery.

Georgina Drug Investigation

Detectives began looking into a suspect believed to be distributing controlled substances around Georgina and neighbouring areas in April 2026. Investigators determined the individual had ties to two homes — one in Georgina, another in Barrie — as well as two vehicles.

This week, officers located and detained a 26-year-old man living in Georgina. They then carried out authorized searches at the two properties and the associated vehicles. The raids yielded what police suspect is cocaine, a stash of cash, and a loaded handgun.

The accused, identified as Poosanan Uthayakumar, is now facing multiple criminal counts. These include six offences linked to illegal weapons, two connected to narcotics distribution, plus additional charges for possessing criminal proceeds and violating probation terms. Court records indicate he was already banned from possessing weapons and was under supervised release when the alleged crimes took place.

Vaughan Armed Break-In

In an unrelated matter, detectives have charged two Toronto residents — one adult and one youth — following an early-morning invasion at a Vaughan home. Three other participants in the crime remain unidentified and at large.

According to investigators, four intruders broke into a residence near Stormont Trail and Carling Road at approximately 4:45 a.m. on May 15. The occupants were asleep when the group entered, confronted them, and allegedly used a firearm to intimidate them. The assailants reportedly demanded valuables, money, and the keys to a Lamborghini parked at the property. The stolen sports car was driven away alongside a dark sedan operated by a fifth accomplice.

Earlier this week, police served three warrants at Toronto addresses, resulting in two arrests. One suspect was allegedly carrying a loaded firearm when taken into custody.

Eighteen-year-old Javaunie Thomas faces weapons charges, accusations of concealing his identity, possession of stolen property, and violating a previous court order. The 15-year-old co-accused is charged with armed robbery, disguise with intent, possession of stolen goods, and breach of release conditions. Both were already subject to court-imposed restrictions from prior unrelated cases when the home invasion allegedly occurred.
