Hamilton man Joshua Teklenburg sought after shooting at Vanier Towers, two charged
Two men arrested in connection with a March shooting at 95 Hess St. S. in Hamilton; a third suspect remains at large.
Third suspect at large after Hamilton's Vanier Towers shooting
Two Hamilton men have been arrested and charged in connection with a targeted shooting at a CityHousing Hamilton complex, while a third suspect remains wanted, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
Hamilton Police responded to gunfire inside an apartment at 95 Hess St. S. — the Vanier Towers building — on March 20 at approximately 4:10 a.m. Officers found an adult victim with gunshot wounds who was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A firearm believed to have been used in the incident was subsequently recovered.
"Investigators believe the incident was targeted," Hamilton Police stated in a news release.
Nicol Jeffrey, 44, and Alexander Echeverry, 30, both of Hamilton, have since been arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, break and enter, extortion while using a firearm, robbery with a firearm, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, and uttering threats to cause death.
Joshua Teklenburg, 38, of Hamilton, remains at large. Police describe him as a Black man approximately 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds with a medium build, last seen with a beard and short black hair. The specific charges he is expected to face were not disclosed, and the current condition of the shooting victim was also not confirmed. A request for additional information sent to Hamilton Police had not been returned at the time of publication.
"Investigators are urging Teklenburg to seek legal counsel and surrender himself at the nearest police station," police said. Members of the public are advised not to approach him and to call 911 immediately if he is spotted.
The Hess St. S. shooting took place approximately one block north of 191 Main St. W., another CityHousing Hamilton high-rise where a fatal shooting occurred in late April. The victim in that incident, 19-year-old Talon Williams-Parkin, later died in hospital.
On the same night Williams-Parkin was killed, a vigil was held a few blocks away at Hamilton City Hall for Nabil Askafe, 16, who had been shot and killed in the downtown area roughly a week earlier. Nabil was slain at Jackson Square following what police described as a "small interaction" while he was walking along King St. from Hess toward the downtown mall.
