A Toronto police officer was fatally shot while carrying out a search warrant at a residential building in North York on Thursday morning, according to the Toronto Sun.

Constable Marc Pinizzotto, a member of the Emergency Task Force, entered a fourth-floor apartment near Martha Eaton Way at approximately 5:40 a.m. He sustained a single gunshot wound and later died from his injuries.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw stated that the operation was connected to a series of shootings in the city, including the March attack on the United States Consulate on University Avenue. Multiple search warrants were executed that morning.

The circumstances surrounding the officer's death have drawn attention to broader concerns about targeted violence. U.S. authorities have alleged that an Iraqi-born individual with links to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was involved in planning attacks, including the consulate shooting and incidents targeting Jewish institutions in Toronto. This individual was reportedly arrested in Turkey in May and transferred to the United States to face terrorism-related charges.

The fatal shooting of Constable Pinizzotto remains under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit, which probes incidents involving police where death or serious injury occurs.
