Authorities at Toronto's Pearson Airport detained a 36-year-old upon his arrival from India, linking him to the record-breaking gold and currency robbery at the facility in April 2023.

Archit Grover, from Brampton, was taken into custody Monday. He now stands accused of stealing goods valued above $5,000 and plotting to carry out a serious crime. Officers are also pursuing him south of the border for weapons-related accusations.

The incident under investigation took place on April 17 last year, when a shipment landed from Zurich. A driver in a large truck showed workers a fake document and drove away with over 400 kilograms of precious metal plus close to two million American dollars in bills.

Detectives working with American federal agents on Project 24K suspect employees at the airline helped orchestrate the scheme. One former supervisor allegedly guided officers around the cargo area after the crime before stepping down from his position. That individual, along with two others, remains wanted.

So far, officials have found roughly one kilogram of the stolen bullion, equipment used to melt it down, and about $434,000 in cash. The inquiry also exposed an alleged scheme to bring guns into the country from the United States.
