Detectives with the municipal force in Québec City are now conducting a murder probe following the discovery of a body on the evening of June 22. As reported by Le Canada Français, the deceased has been identified as Sushmita Bhaskaran, aged 51.

Her remains were located in a wooded section of the city's south shore. Initially, authorities had only described the passing as suspicious. By the following Friday, however, the service officially reclassified the case as an intentional killing.

On the same evening the victim was found, officers placed a 61-year-old male under arrest in connection with the events. He was expected to appear before a judge at the Québec courthouse on Friday morning.

The precise location where the body lay was pinpointed thanks to investigative clues gathered during the probe, with support provided by the police department in neighbouring Lévis. Officials continue working to clarify how the fatal incident unfolded.
