Detectives with the municipal force in Québec City are treating the death of a woman in her fifties as a killing. Her remains turned up on June 22 in a forested section of the South Shore region.

The deceased was later named as Sushmita Bhaskaran, 51 years old. At first, officers classified the passing as suspicious. By Friday, however, they reclassified it as intentional homicide.

On the same day the corpse was located, police detained a male aged 61 in connection with the case. He was scheduled to appear before a judge at the Québec courthouse on Friday morning.

Evening searchers found the victim on June 22 after clues gathered during the inquiry pointed toward that location. The Lévis municipal police department assisted in the recovery effort, according to an official statement from the Québec City force.

Investigators are still working to establish exactly what occurred.
