A 33-year-old Jamaican national with outstanding Canadian warrants for weapons possession and court evasion was captured by U.S. border agents after illegally crossing from Canada into Minnesota.

On June 9, officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection captured a 33-year-old Jamaican national who had slipped into northern Minnesota without passing through an authorized checkpoint.

The apprehension occurred in the Pigeon River area, where the man emerged from thick woodland near Grand Portage. American officials stated he had entered from the Canadian side without legal documentation or inspection.

Canadian authorities had previously issued warrants for his detention. The accusations against him included illegally carrying firearms, resisting police officers, and failing to present himself before a judge as required.

During the manhunt, Ontario Provincial Police cautioned drivers traveling near the junction of Highway 61 and Highway 593 against picking up strangers on the roadside.

Investigators later determined that the suspect had towed a U-Haul rental to the edge of the border zone and deserted it there. Law enforcement inspected the abandoned vehicle before arranging its removal to Thunder Bay.

American immigration authorities planned to process the case through rapid removal channels and transfer the individual back into Canadian custody.
