Justin Hopkins-Jones, 37, has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting in Langley, B.C., cbc.ca reports.

Langley RCMP officers were called to Brydon Crescent, near 55 Avenue and 200 Street, just after 11:30 p.m. PT on May 26. A 47-year-old man was found at the scene and died despite life-saving efforts.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced the charge on Tuesday. Sgt. Freda Fong said investigators believe the incident was isolated and unrelated to gang activity or extortion.

"The matter is over a personal issue between the two," Fong said at a news conference. "It's not believed to be related to gang activity or extortion attempts."

Police identified Hopkins-Jones within days of the shooting, aided by witnesses and collaboration among multiple police agencies. The shooting took place at an apartment building. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Hopkins-Jones is next scheduled to appear in court on June 5.
