Shooting at Connaught Park leaves victim with life-altering injuries

A man in his 30s was shot at Connaught Park, located at 1135 14 Ave. SW in Calgary's Beltline neighbourhood, just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Global News Crime reports.

Officers from the Calgary Police Service (CPS) responded to the scene and found the victim, who was transported to hospital in critical condition. As of Thursday afternoon, he remains in hospital with injuries described as "life-altering."

Acting Staff Sgt. Cory Der called the incident "a brazen act of violence in a public space." He added: "These are places where people should feel safe walking their dogs and enjoying their community. We recognize how unsettling this is for residents and are committed to holding those responsible accountable."

Police initially took several individuals into custody for questioning, but determined they had no involvement in the shooting. A separate person was later detained, though no charges have been confirmed.

The CPS says the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
