Two occupants of a Brampton house were struck by bullets during an armed break-in early on Sunday and were hospitalized with wounds that are not expected to be fatal.

Peel Regional Police reported that emergency responders arrived at a property close to the intersection of Ray Lawson Boulevard and Bent Tree Court, in the Steeles Avenue West–McLaughlin Road South neighbourhood, a little after 4 a.m.

According to Constable Tyler Bell-Morena, multiple intruders carrying guns slipped into the building via its rear entrance while those inside were asleep. A struggle ensued once the suspects were indoors, and gunshots rang out within the property.

Both wounded individuals were taken by paramedics to a trauma facility. The attackers escaped and have not yet been captured. Witnesses described them as dressed in dark outfits with concealed faces.

Investigators have not yet established the number of rounds discharged or the specific kind of weapon involved. Law enforcement is appealing to nearby residents who possess video doorbells or security cameras to save any recordings and reach out to detectives.
