Police in Hamilton apprehended a man from Mississauga during an overnight incident involving a stolen automobile and a loaded firearm.

Law enforcement in Hamilton took a 28-year-old Mississauga resident into custody early Sunday after a violent encounter involving a stolen automobile and a loaded firearm.

The incident began around 3:16 a.m. when a caller reported a suspicious grey Honda sitting on Elodia Court on Hamilton’s west mountain with its headlights off. Responding officers determined the vehicle had been reported missing to Peel Regional Police.

While attempting to approach the driver, police allege the motorist slammed into one cruiser and tried to speed away. He then hit a second cruiser on the same street, disabling both law-enforcement vehicles.

The individual exited the Honda and attempted to flee on foot. Officers gave chase and captured him a short distance from the scene.

Even after being placed in handcuffs, the accused allegedly continued to fight with officers and declined to give his name.

A search of the automobile turned up a loaded Glock pistol on the front passenger seat.

The suspect, identified as Sammy Shaik, now faces charges including four weapons-related counts, dangerous driving, disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property valued above $5,000.
